A Gift of Love and Devotion - Several Copies of Kamala's Books

It was a special joy to learn that a website devoted to Kamala Silva, the great disciple and minister of Paramhansa Yogananda was created recently by loving devotees in the San Francisco area where Kamala conducted her long ministry and established the Blessed Master's work in that area. I was blessed to know Kamala through many years of personal correspondence. Also during the many years I lived in the Encinitas area and attended the SRF services and retreats there, almost all the lay disciples owned her books and loved her. Those books, The Flawless Mirror and Priceless Precepts have long been out of print. Kamala and her husband Edward at their own expense quietly printed and sold these books to share Kamala's long life and service to Paramhansaji, as one of his earliest and most advanced disciples. In particular, The Flawless Mirror is the first book ever written by a direct disciple about Paramhansa Yogananda and remains a spiritual treasure.

The Flawless Mirror, which tells the story of Kamala's many years as the Master's disciple, and Priceless Precepts, which was taken from her many lectures as his minister, have been a great inspiration to countless devotees. The hardback version of these books were first published in the 1960's and the last edition was published in 1987. Since Kamala's passing I have been purchasing and collecting "very fine" editions of The Flawless Mirror, knowing how difficult it is now to find an edition in excellent condition, and how rare these editions have become.

In the spirit of supporting this lovely website, I have donated a number of these fine quality editions to the "For the Love of Kamala" site to be sold to help fund the future work of this small group which is lovingly keeping her spirit and life of devotion and service to Paramhansaji alive. The purchase of these editions will serve to help these devotees in their future projects, and it is hoped that at some point in the future that lovely paperback editions of Kamala's books will be printed so that devotees everywhere will be able to feel the inspiration of her wonderful books, and at a very affordable price for all. Until then, the discerning devotee collector will find these fine editions a priceless addition to their spiritual library and know that the cost has gone to such a wonderful project.

Kamala In Color

As mentioned elsewhere, Kamala's personal papers were given to us for this weblog and for safekeeping for future generations of devotees. Several visitors to this site have asked if we had any color photos of Kamala. We have several nice photos we have prepared to share and will be adding others as we receive permission from those who appear with Kamala.

A Story From Lawrence McGaugh

As he was struggling with the cancer that eventually took him to Master, our dear friend Lawrence McGaugh urged me to "get moving" with this tribute to Kamala. Every time I visited him, he'd repeat that we "really had to do it for Master." So we very much have Lawrence's urgings to thank for this site finally coming online.

Here's Lawrence's Kamala story, related to me only days before his passing:

You know I used to be into jazz and night life and all that, right? Well, some of those habits are hard to shake. But Master keeps on working on me, nevertheless.

One evening a few years back, I had been out to dinner with a lovely lady friend, and I had a glass of wine. When I got home, I was feeling pretty bad about myself. "Some yogi you are!" and that kind of thing sort of dragging me down. I sank into the sofa and started to brood about when I would finally get it together.

Now, I used to keep Kamala's book, The Flawless Mirror, on my coffee table, and I reached for it and started to read. Immediately, I felt better about myself, and as I read on, felt greatly uplifted.

Some time later, not sure how long, the room suddenly filled with this beautiful soft pink light, and I heard this beautiful female voice clearly say, "Great blessings come to all who read this book."

Nothing more than that.

So you tell me, was it Divine Mother? Kamala herself?

I don't know. All I know is that from that night on, I really KNEW I was blessed and had more to be grateful for than I'd ever imagined.

Kamala was one powerful writer!

We are devotees, Kriyabans and members of Self Realization Fellowship. The purpose and we hope service of this homage to Kamala isn't to raise her to "spiritual star" but to show an example to all devotees of the love of God and Master for the Disciple. Each one of us stands in our own special place in Master's heart. God's grace and Love is equal for all.

Let Kamala's devotion, love and commitment to God, Guru and Paramgurus open up in you new devotion and dedication to your own daily Sadhana and relationship with God and Master.

May God and Master's love shower down on us through Kamala's words, and may peace breathe alive in our consciousness the joy and bliss of God and Guru.

With Love for our Beloved, may we receive thy Blessings.
